The Ruhr region in Germany fascinated me greatly as a child. The vast amount of heavy industry, including steelworks, combined with the abundance of greenery, continues to be a major source of inspiration for my drawings. In this case, the subject is the Thyssenkrupp steelworks. A workers' village where the factory employees live, with the enormous steel industry rising in the background. In this drawing, I have sought to combine the town and the industry in a harmonious way. Achieving the correct perspective on paper was an extremely complex challenge, as I had to work everything out entirely from my own imagination.
